Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
Q: I am concerned that my gown might be lost or stolen in the shipping process. How can I be assured that my gown will
be safe?
A: This is a common concern as we know how precious your gown is to you. However, since a wedding dress is such a personal item,
your gown is usually much more valuable to you than anyone else.
As a result, it is very uncommon that a gown is ever lost or stolen. We utilize very reputable companies, such as UPS and Federal Express, who provide tracking information for shipping your gown both ways. This way you will always know exactly where your dress is at all times. Insurance is also included in each package.
Q: What does the insurance cover?
A: The insurance covers you in the highly unlikely event that your dress is lost, stolen or damaged from the point you send in your gown to the time it is received by you. This includes both the shipping process, as well as the cleaning and preservation process.
Q: If I want additional insurance, what do I need to do?
A: The Traditional Line includes $500 of declared value insurance.
The Celebrity Line includes $1,500 of declared value insurance. If you would like additional insurance simply enclose a check or money order after you receive your pre-paid kit (made payable to Wedding Gown Preservation Co.) for $2.00/per $100.00 of additional insurance.
Q: Do you send my gown somewhere else after I send it to your company?
A: No, all of the cleaning and preservation is done at the same location you send your gown to which is located in Endicott, NY.
Q: Do I need to have my gown cleaned before sending it to your company?
A: No, we will handle all of the cleaning necessary to ensure a proper preservation.
Q: What is the difference between 'cleaning' and 'preservation'?
A: Dry cleaning provides a basic cleaning of obvious dirt and stains. However, it does not protect against the long term yellowing, fabric deterioration, or invisible stains that can surface over time and ruin your precious gown. (See related article.)
Q: What exactly is the process that you use to clean the gown?
A: The Wedding Gown Preservation Company has several different processes that are used in cleaning. Each gown is carefully evaluated before cleaning and the best process for that particular gown is used.
All of the processes are safe, gentle, and done by hand. To see a video about the process click here. Please note: shoulder pads and bust forms are removed, as leaving them in the gown could cause damage over time. They are then packaged separately and shipped with your gown.
Q: What stains are removed with your process?
A: At least 95% of all stains can be removed. Those such as tar, blood, grass stains, mud, grease and food are the most common, and of course any sugar stains such as cake icing, wine or other types of beverages.
Q: What can be seen through the display window?
A: You are able to see your gown and veil through the display window. Other items are positioned near the bottom of the window where possible or underneath the gown.
Q: Can I have my veil and or other accessories cleaned, but not placed with my gown?
A: Yes, you may have up to 3 accessories cleaned, preserved and placed with your gown at no additional charge. To have accessories packaged seperately there is an additional charge. Please refer to the order form that comes with the kit for pricing information.
Q: What else can I send along with my gown?
A: You may also send items such as headpiece, garter, gloves, moneybag, handkerchief, slip, etc. The price includes up to 3 accessories. Shoes are an additional $25. Additional items can be included for an additional charge. Please refer to your order form for pricing information. Please note: All items placed in the preservation chest with your gown MUST be cleaned by Wedding Gown Preservation Company in order to be guaranteed.
Q: Is my gown guaranteed?
A: YES! We provide a 100% guarantee for 20 years against caramelized sugar stains or yellowing of the gown. If at any time the gown is found to have yellowed or has caramelized stains, we will restore the gown at no extra charge. If processing is unsuccessful, we will refund the preservation cost.
Q: Can I reseal the box myself if it was opened inadvertently but
the gown was not handled?
A: Your wedding gown preservation chest is shipped to you sealed to protect it against dust and dirt, but is not air-tight as fabric needs to 'breathe'. If the chest is opened, you will also receive sealing squares to place inside the seams of the preservation chest. Opening the chest will not void the guarantee.
Q: If I need to open up the preservation chest any time in the future, will that jeopardize or void the guarantee?
A: Your guarantee will not be voided. However, you should take care to reseal the preservation chest with the sealing squares provided. You will also receive gloves with which to handle the gown. If your gown was handled excessively or soiled it should be cleaned and preserved again.
